If you like books with twists and turns that keep you guessing, there's no other book that can twist as fast as this one! It will keep you guessing right to the very last moment... Also, if you're a fan of Lemony Snicket's Series of Unfortunate Events, you are sure to enjoy this.

Molly Moon is just an ordinary girl with a miserable existence living in Hardwick House. She was left on the doorstep of the orphanage as an infant without any information about herself. Molly has only one friend; other than that, she hates her life and wishes it would change. So it's a total surprise when, by sheer accident, Molly finds a book on how to use hypnotism.

Could hypnotism really exist? When Molly "borrows" the book, she finds herself on adventures that lead to New York City because -- as it turns out -- she does have the gift of hypnotism. Molly finds out she has abilities beyond her wildest dreams -- she can hypnotize anybody to do anything she wants! How will this change her life?

The 13 ½ Lives of Captain Bluebear: A novel -
Moers, Walter

AGE: 14+
LOCATION: FIC MOE
GENRE: Humourous
RATED: *** A real knee-slapper!
REVIEWER: Lee, member of Teen Book Club

How does Walter Moers do it?! He must be insane or very literarily gifted. This novel has many maniacal twists, taking the reader on crazed adventure after crazed adventure. The Bluebear leads many lives – 13 ½ to be exact – in which things seem smooth and carefree, then all hell breaks loose, then it is peaceful again – over and over! And, if you thought you left part of the story behind, it will jump back up later and slap you in the face. I would only recommend reading this book if you have some time, or else you will want to read it everywhere, anytime, and will become late for everything! This book is very well planned and thought out, though.

Whales on Stilts -
Anderson, M. T.
AGE: 10 - 14
LOCATION: J AND
GENRE: Humourous
RATED: **Kind of amusing
REVIEWER: Tonya, Banff Public Library staff

I love this author; everything he writes is gold! This is a really funny book about three misfit friends in a perfectly quirky small town -- a town which is about to be invaded by whales on stilts. Of course, the kids are the only ones to have caught on to the evil plan for the whales to take over the world, and none of the adults believe a word of what the kids say. The story is quick, slap-your-knees-funny, and very captivating for something so easy to read. Will Lily and her friends be able to stop the evil stilt-walking, laser-eye shooting whale invasion!?
