This book is about Tom Marlowe and his friend; they are in a fight against
time to protect each other while the life of Tom’s friend has been
threatened. In this book, Death is a character who kills those who he
chooses. Who is he? Will Tom’s friend survive? I enjoyed the book
because it showed that death can come in different forms. First in the
Tom Marlowe mysteries.
Do the Math: Secrets, Lies and Algebra-
Wendy Lichtman
AGE: 10 - 15
LOCATION: Not in library collection
GENRE: Mystery fiction
RATED: * It's a mystery why anyone would read this!
REVIEWER: Kelly S., Grade 6 student
You can’t use math to solve mysteries… or can you? If you like books that
make you want to keep reading and reading, are super exciting, and there’s
always a twist at some point in it, then this book is NOT FOR YOU!
This novel is about a girl named Tess. This teen LOVES algebra and she
uses it all the time --even for her secret journal. She uses it as a tool
to try and solve two mysteries. Will she be able to solve these mysteries
with her math skills? Who cares? Not me. I thought that the book was quite
boring because the storyline was slow and dull. I felt it had no point.
The main character didn’t seem real enough. I don’t think the author remembered
what it was like to be a teenager. If you like math you might enjoy it,
but personally, I don’t like math that much, so I would rate it about
3.5 out of 10.
The Falcon's Malteser-

The brilliant creator of the Alex Rider adventure series has brought us another great bunch of books about the Diamond Brothers. The Falcon’s Malteser introduces us to the clever and level-headed Nick, whose ridiculously absent-minded older brother works as a private detective who is barely making ends meet. Together, they are a cheeky team of gumshoes who get in way over their heads when a midget gives them a secret package of chocolate candies to take care of. When the midget dies, every hard-nosed criminal in town is suddenly out to get the Diamond brothers… because the box of candy could be the key to a secret stash of diamonds worth over 7 million dollars!

This book is about the teenage detectives, the Hardy Boys, and a kidnapping.
Frank and Joe have to rescue their Dad, Fenton Hardy, and Mr. Jones from
a supposedly haunted house. I enjoyed this book because it was very exciting.
It jumped from one thing to another, with one mystery leading into another.

Night of the Bat -

This book is about Jake with his dad and a research team in the rainforest
of Brazil. His dad is a “batologist”(a person who studies
bats). Many of his dad’s research team have been killed by a huge
bat that is about forty times bigger than a normal bat. Jake, his dad,
and the research team are determined to capture and kill the horrifying
and enormous bat. Will they succeed, or will they fail? I enjoyed this
book because it shows that children care about their parents and would
do anything to protect them.
The Sally Lockhart Quartet -

I loved these atmospheric detective mysteries set in Victorian England
-- I think you will too! These books have wonderful characters and are
really inventive stories. They are a little bit scary, but with funny
bits, also. I wish there were more than four books in the series. The
first book in the series is Shadow In the North.

I enjoyed this thrilling book about Charlie Eggleston finding a small
town that wasn’t on any maps. No one knew about the place except
for those who lived there and Charlie. He finds himself looking through
the window of a magic shop where he sees the Skull of Truth. What is it?
Will Charlie be able to get home or will he be stuck in the mysterious
town forever?
A Thief in the House of Memory -

Declan wants nothing more than to learn the truth about his mother’s strange
disappearance. Could it somehow be connected to the dead burglar that
Declan and his sister find in their father’s abandoned house? The house,
like the family’s past, hides secrets and Declan’s father has been acting
pretty suspiciously lately… Can Declan discover the truth? Does he truly
want to? All the ingredients are here for a classic murder mystery.
The Tower Treasure (Hardy Boys) -
Dixon, Franklin W.
AGE: 9 - 14
LOCATION: J DIX
GENRE: Mystery fiction
RATED: ** Has a strange appeal
REVIEWER: Isaac, Teen Summer Reading Programme participant
This book is about the two Hardy Boys, Frank and Joe, solving the mystery
of Mr. and Mrs. Applegate’s stolen property as well as the disappearance
of their friend’s car. One mystery splits into many mysteries but,
at the end, the boys manage to find an answer. I liked this book because
of how the Hardy Boys find the clues, even though they are not obvious,
and use them to solve the crime.
