Membership & Borrowing

Library membership is free for all residents of the town of Banff and Improvement District No. 9 (ID9) - the area outside of the town of Banff but within Banff National Park, including Lake Louise and Saskatchewan River Crossing. Registration can be done in-person at the Library or online.

Picture ID and proof of residency are required to obtain a library card. Proof of residency may include a:

  • driver’s license
  • lease agreement
  • Internet, phone, or power bill

Alberta residents with a membership from another municipal library may sign up for limited borrowing privileges at Banff Public Library through ME Libraries.

Non-residents may obtain a membership for a non-refundable annual fee of $70.00.

Library membership allows patrons to borrow physical materials and access online resources.

Membership is not required to attend library programs or to use the public computers, Internet/Wi-Fi, or any materials within the library.

Twenty-five items may be borrowed at a time, including books, audiobooks, magazines, DVDs, and CDs. All loan periods are set to 21 days with the exception of holiday-themed DVDs which can be borrowed for 7 days.

Items can be renewed up to two times if they have not been requested by another patron. Renewals can be conducted in person, by phone, or online by logging into your account through The Regional Automation Consortium (TRAC) catalogue using your library card barcode number and PIN. Searching for items, placing requests, and renewing items can also be conducted using the TRACpac App which can be downloaded for free through Google Play and the Apple App Store. Video tutorials on how to use the TRACpac App can be found here.

Banff Public Library does not charge late fees but encourages patrons to return their items by the due dates so that they are available for others to borrow. Late fees by donation are welcome.
